Hammocks and warm weather just go together and there is nothing quite so relaxing as time spent on a hammock in the summer with a cool breeze blowing over you as you soak up a little sun. They have been popular for many years but the choices available today are astounding.
There are two basic kinds of hammocks to choose from when you are choosing for your backyard, pool or patio area. Of course, if you have a large front or screened in porch, you could also put one there.
Most anyone can easily conjure up a picture of a hammock for one person that basically wraps around you in cocoon-like fashion. While these may be comfortable for some people, others may find them difficult to get in and out of. They may not be as restful for certain individuals and certainly cannot accommodate two people.
Some hammocks come with a spreader bar which spreads the hammock out flat where there is no cocooning effect. Many of these are large enough to comfortably fit two adults and can handle up to 450 pounds. Since they are somewhat taut due to the bar that keeps the material stretched out, they are not as “comfy” as the other type of hammock but probably a better choice when used by different people.
The Different Ways To Buy Hammocks
Many manufacturers will sell hammocks with stands as a package deal that also includes all the hardware. You will have a certain amount of choice in the colors of the hammock and construction of the stand but will be limited to what is offered in any particular style.
Another option which provides more choice and flexibility is to purchase hammock stands separately from the hammock. By doing this you will only need to be sure your hammock fits the stand but otherwise you will have a much broader choice for your hammock colors and materials as well as the color and construction of the stand itself.
Hammock chairs are another way people can enjoy a free-style way of sitting. Also referred to as hanging chairs or swinging chairs, these chairs provide a gentle swinging motion while suspended in the air.
They can be hung from a tree or from a secure spot either on your porch or inside your house. As with the regular hammocks, there is a free standing option available and you can either buy a chair stand separately or buy the two as a package deal.
And for the outdoor enthusiasts who like to camp or travel a lot, lightweight portable hammocks are ideal for the hikers and backpackers. For the diehard adventurers, camping hammocks will allow for comfortable suspended sleeping fully protected from the rain and pesky bugs.
A Hammock For Every Occasion
So whether you want a hammock with a stand as a permanent fixture in your backyard, or you want to be able to swing comfortably on your porch in a hammock chair, or you just want to sleep undisturbed in a travel hammock or hammock tent while in the great outdoors, you will have plenty of styles, colors and materials of hammocks to choose from.
